Peru: Protest march planned in Lima at 18:00 Dec. 5 to oppose release of former President Alberto Fujimori from prison

Activists plan to stage a march from Plaza San Martin in Lima at 18:00 Dec. 5 to oppose the decision of the Constitutional Tribunal to release former President Alberto Fujimori from prison. Multiple human rights bodies have rejected the decision to release Fujimori, who is likely to leave his detention site on Dec. 6. Thousands of people may participate in the demonstration. Protest organizers did not immediately specify the march route.

Heightened security and transport disruptions are likely in the vicinity of the march. Counterprotests may also materialize on short notice. Clashes between demonstrators and police, or between groups of opposing demonstrators, cannot be ruled out. Similar protests may materialize in Lima and other cities over the coming hours and days.
