Informational

Opposition politicians have called for protests in Bratislava and Kosice Dec. 12. Demonstrators will gather at Freedom Square in Bratislava and the State Scientific Library (8/10 Hlavna) in Kosice from 18:00. The purpose of the actions is to denounce a government plan to dissolve a special prosecutorial office in charge of investigating corruption. It is unclear how many participants may attend. This is the second such protest following a Dec. 7 demonstration that drew several thousand participants.

Heightened security and localized transport disruptions are likely near the demonstration site. Low-level confrontations between protesters and law enforcement officers cannot be ruled out.

Avoid the affected areas as a standard precaution. Allow additional time if traveling near the protest sites. Strictly heed all instructions from law enforcement officers. Immediately depart the area at the first sign of any security disturbance.
