South Korea: Police responding to bomb threats at several public facilities in Seoul and other locations Dec. 29
Officials investigating bomb threats at multiple buildings in Seoul and other areas in South Korea Dec. 29. Limited disruptions possible.
Authorities are responding to bomb threats targeting multiple government buildings in South Korea since the morning of Dec. 29. Unidentified perpetrators reportedly sent a fax threatening bomb attacks on buildings such as the Seoul City Hall, as well as the offices of the Customs Service, Defense Acquisition Program Administration, National Tax Service, Supreme Prosecutor, Public Procurement Service, Meteorological Administration, the National Police Agency, and the Ministry of National Defense. However, authorities have not confirmed any threat to the community. Similar threats have occurred in recent months, which have proven to be false. Additional threats to other public facilities are possible, especially in Seoul.
A heightened security presence is likely near affected buildings in the coming hours; evacuations, cordons, and road closures are possible if any threat is confirmed.
Exercise caution around government buildings and crowded public places. Plan for possible localized transport disruptions near the affected areas Dec. 29; allow additional time to reach nearby destinations. Heed all security and traffic advisories.
