Ukraine: Russian missile strikes target various locations, including Kyiv, Lyiv, and Odesa, early Dec. 29

Tight security likely across Ukraine following Russian missile strikes across various locations early Dec. 29. Disruptions probable.

Warning

Authorities are responding to Russian missile strikes targeting various parts of Ukraine, including Kyiv, Lviv, and Odesa, overnight Dec. 28-29.

Preliminary reports suggest that at least seven people were injured and several apartment buildings damaged in Kyiv. A metro station in the capital was also affected by falling debris. In Lviv, missile fragments landed on several residential buildings and an educational institution, killing at least one person and injuring several others. In Odesa, projectiles struck residential buildings, killing at least two people and injuring more than a dozen others.

Heightened security measures will likely be in place across Ukraine, particularly around impact sites, over the coming hours and days. Localized ground travel and business disruptions are probable. Widespread power cuts are possible as authorities respond to damaged infrastructure. Further Russian missile attacks against Ukraine may occur in the coming days.

Avoid the affected areas until authorities give the all-clear. Plan for localized ground travel and business disruptions at least through Dec. 29. Shelter in place if there is fighting or airstrikes in the area. Stay away from windows and exterior walls if officials report incoming rocket or artillery fire. Follow the instructions of local security personnel, especially when instructed to seek refuge in air-raid shelters. Maintain contact with diplomatic representations. Do not approach suspected unexploded ordnance.
