US, Mexico: Rail operations resume at international crossing bridges in Eagle Pass and El Paso, Texas, as of Dec. 26 /update 1

Authorities resume operations at international railway crossings in Eagle Pass and El Paso, Texas, connecting US and Mexico, as of Dec. 26.

Warning

US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officials have announced the resumption of rail operations via the international railway crossing bridges in El Paso and Eagle Pass, Texas, which connect the US with Mexico, as of Dec. 26. Authorities reportedly closed the bridges to rail operations on Dec. 18 so that border officials could redirect personnel to assist with migrant processing. Despite the restarting of rail operations at the two crossings, vehicular processing is still suspended at Eagle Pass International Bridge 1 in Eagle Pass, Texas; it was not immediately clear when officials would resume vehicular processing at the bridge.

Cross-border vehicular transport disruptions will continue at the Eagle Pass crossing until the suspension is lifted, and may extend beyond the eventual resumption of vehicular processing if international vehicular traffic volume is high once the suspension is rescinded. Authorities operating in Texas will likely maintain a heightened security posture along US-Mexico border crossings in the state over the coming months.

Check the status of relevant border crossings before beginning cross-border journeys. Consider alternative routes for time-sensitive deliveries and allow additional time for cross-border travel. Strictly heed authorities' instructions.
