Due to maintenance work, planned power outages will continue in parts of Phnom Penh and Kandal Province through Jan. 21. Utility provider Electricite du Cambodge has announced these details:

  • Jan. 19: Sen Sok, Por Sen Chey, and Prek Pnov districts of Phnom Penh 08:00-16:00.

  • Jan. 20: Sen Sok, Por Sen Chey, and Prek Phnov districts of Phnom Penh and Ponhea Leu District, Kandal Province, 08:00-13:00.

  • Jan. 21: Boeung Keng Kang and Chbar Ampov districts, Phnom Penh, and Takhmao City, Kandal Province, 08:00-16:00.

Transport disruptions are likely in areas with malfunctioning traffic signals. Disruptions to business and telecommunications, including cellular and mobile services, may occur. Power outages could result in the temporary unavailability of essential services, such as ATMs and gas stations. Blackouts could adversely affect security protocols, including alarm systems and electronic fences; opportunistic criminal activity could increase during electricity outages.

Charge all communication and portable electronic devices when possible. Unplug electronic equipment that is not connected to surge protectors. Exercise caution when driving in areas affected by power outages. Confirm business appointments. Verify that security systems are operational, including after power is restored. Ensure that generators are functional and fully fueled.
