Italy: Unionized energy workers to demonstrate in central Genoa Jan. 16

Unionized energy workers to march from Piazza Acquaverde, Genoa, Italy, from 08:30 Jan. 16. Increased security, traffic disruptions likely.

Warning

Unionized energy workers plan to protest at Piazza Acquaverde in Genoa from 08:30 Jan. 16. The purpose of the demonstration is to denounce the trial of several energy workers for actions during a 2022 strike. Organizers indicated that the protest would include a march; however, the march route and destination are yet to be announced. The amount of participants the event may draw remains unclear.

Heightened security and localized transport disruptions are likely. Low-level confrontations between protesters and law enforcement officers cannot be ruled out. Disruptions are possible at Genoa Piazza Principe Station due to its location near the protest start point. Participants may attempt to march to the Court of Genoa (Tribunale di Genova, Piazza Portoria).

Avoid all demonstrations as a standard precaution. Allow additional time if traveling in central Genoa throughout the day or at Genoa Piazza Principe Station in the morning hours. Strictly heed all instructions from law enforcement officers. Immediately depart the area at the first sign that any security disturbance may occur.
