Kenya: Planned power outages underway in parts of Nairobi and other counties Jan. 23

Officials implementing planned power outages in parts of Nairobi and other counties in Kenya, through 17:00 Jan. 23.

Informational

The country's energy provider, Kenya Power, is implementing planned power outages in parts of Nairobi and other counties from 09:00-17:00 on Jan. 23. The Runda and Mimosa areas of Nairobi, as well as parts of Machakos, Kajiado, and Mombasa counties, are affected.

Temporary commercial and communications disruptions are possible in the areas affected by the outage. Traffic lights may not function, resulting in traffic disruptions, and public transport that relies on power may be affected. The outage could also result in the temporary unavailability of essential facilities such as ATMs and filling stations.

Unplug electronic equipment that is not connected to surge protectors. Plan for disruptions to business and utility services and possible road travel delays due to malfunctioning or nonfunctional traffic lights. Follow local travel and security advice.
