Heightened security and disruptions to transport and business are likely in parts of Ibadan, Oyo State, over the coming hours after an explosion occurred in the city late Jan. 16. Unconfirmed reports allege that the cause of the incident was a gas explosion at a filling station in the Samonda area; however, Oyo State governmental authorities said that security forces were still investigating the cause and location of the incident as of around 21:08. The blast reportedly caused material damage in multiple parts of the city. Authorities did not immediately confirm the number of casualties sustained in connection with the explosion.

Utility disruptions, including power outages, are possible over the coming hours in areas impacted by the blast. Authorities may close roads or issue evacuation orders depending on the needs of the emergency response.
