Nigeria: Maritime employees suspend planned strike at seaports on Jan. 9 /update 1
Union representing maritime and port employees calls off strike at seaports in Nigeria scheduled for Jan. 9.
The Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN) has called off a strike scheduled for Jan. 9 amid talks with the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA). The union had initially threatened to shut down the country’s seaports, jetties, as well as gas and oil platforms, over International Oil Companies' (IOCs) alleged noncompliance with laws.
Further strike calls are possible if grievances remain unaddressed.
Monitor local sources for possible updates on fresh strikes.
