Activists' protests cause significant traffic disruptions in Panama City, Panama, Jan. 25.

Members of the Union of Construction Workers of Panama (Sindicato Unico Nacional de Trabajadores de la Industria de la Construcción y Similares, SUNTRACS) are causing significant traffic disruptions in Panama City on Jan. 25. Participants are blocking the intersection of Calle 50 and Calle 74 in the San Francisco area. Disruptions are also being reported along Corredor Norte near Villa Lucre. The purpose of the action is to demand that the government reopen the activists' bank accounts.

Localized disruptions to businesses, public transport, and public services are likely in the area. Police will likely deploy to monitor the demonstration and may move to disperse protesters, which could prompt confrontations. Protesters could block roads in other locations in the city Jan. 25.

Avoid all demonstrations as a standard precaution. Seek alternative routes to circumvent the protest area. Heed the instructions of security personnel.
