Romania: Activists to conduct convoy demonstration in Brasov Jan. 31
Activists to hold vehicular protest in Brasov, Romania, Jan. 31. Heightened security, and transport disruptions likely.
Farmers and truckers activists plan to conduct two parallel convoy protests in central Brasov from Jan. 31. The purpose of the demonstration is to denounce an alleged lack of investment in infrastructure, taxes, education, and healthcare, as well as state authorities' alleged non-compliance with the constitution. Organizers expect 50 participants driving various vehicles, including tractors, trucks, and other agricultural equipment, to attend. Additionally, organizers have encouraged Brasov residents with personal cars to follow. Protesters will gather at the convoy start points at 10:30 before departing at 11:00, proceeding slowly along the following routes:
Convoy 1: Bulevardul Grivtei opposite Piata Stupini, Onix roundabout, Strada 13 Decembrie, Strada Iuliu Maniu, Casa Armatei, Bulevardul Eroilor, Bulevardul 15 Noiembrie, Calea Bucuresti, Darste Bridge (Podul Darste).
Convoy 2: Darste Bridge (Podul Darste)-Calea Bucuresti, Bulevardul Saturn, Bulevardul Alexandru Vlahuta, Strada Harmanului. It is unclear where on Strada Harmanului the convoy will end.
Heightened security and localized transport disruptions are likely along the convoy routes. Low-level confrontations between demonstrators, law enforcement officers, or frustrated motorists cannot be ruled out.
Avoid the affected areas as a standard precaution. Allow additional time if traveling in central Brasov during the demonstration hours. Strictly heed all instructions from law enforcement officers. Immediately depart the area at the first sign that any security disturbance may occur.
