Informational

Romanian farmers are protesting at the Porubne-Siret and Krasna-Vicovu de Sus crossing points at the Romanian-Ukrainian border, as of Jan. 15. The protest attempts to block freight from Ukraine entering Romania. The demonstration has been discontinuously held since Jan. 13, with minimal impact on freight traffic at present; however, if the blockade escalates, it could cause increased border crossing times, fright disruptions, and increased security response by Romanian authorities. As of Jan. 15, the protest has not impacted passenger vehicles, public transport, and pedestrian traffic.

Increased security is likely near active protest locations. Temporary goods shortages remain possible. Violence is not anticipated.

Plan accordingly for delays to freight shipments transiting the Romanian-Ukrainian border for the duration of the protest actions. Confirm the status of border crossings before routing shipments across the border. Allow additional travel time in the vicinity of the shared border. Heed instructions from security services. Leave the area at the first sign of a confrontation. Do not attempt to pass through any roadblocks.

Since November, 2023, Polish truckers have been protesting at the Polish-Ukrainian border, demanding EU authorities to stop allowing Ukrainian truck drivers to access the EU without permits. The measure, launched by the EU on June 2023, facilitates Ukrainian transporters to travel within the EU, in an attempt to support Ukrainian economy, uncercutting Polish transporters. Similar protests have since started occasionally in Hungary and Slovakia, always short-lived and with negligible impact.
