South America: Activists in Colombia, Brazil, Uruguay, and Chile to protest Jan. 24 in support of Argentina's unions
Labor activists to protest in Colombia, Brazil, Uruguay, and Chile Jan. 24 to oppose policies of Argentinian government.
Labor activists plan to demonstrate outside of Argentinian diplomatic missions in several cities across South America on Jan. 24 in support of unions in Argentina and to express opposition to President Javier Milei's administration. The rallies will coincide with a nationwide strike in Argentina.
Labor organizations in Colombia, Brazil, Uruguay, and Chile have confirmed the following protests Jan. 24:
Bogota: Outside the Embassy of Argentina at Carrera 11B starting at 12:00
Brasilia: Outside the Embassy of Argentina at St. de Embaixadas Sul starting at 10:00
Montevideo: Outside the Embassy of Argentina at Cuairem 1470 starting at 13:00
Santiago: Outside the Consulate of Argentina at Avenida Vicuna McKenna starting at19:00
Each demonstration will probably draw a few hundred participants, although the rallies in Montevideo and Santiago will likely draw larger crowds. Authorities will almost certainly deploy increased security near the targeted diplomatic missions; associated transport and business disruptions are likely.
Avoid all protests as a precaution. Confirm appointments at Argentinian diplomatic missions for Jan. 24. Heed instructions from authorities.
