Authorities in Perry, Iowa, have confirmed that no further danger to the public exists in the wake of a shooting incident that occurred at Perry High School starting early Jan. 4. Police reportedly found the suspect dead from an apparently self-inflicted gunshot wound. The gunman's motive remains unclear. Authorities have as yet released no official casualty figures; however, preliminary reports indicate at least three individuals were wounded in the incident. School classes in the city of Perry are canceled through July 5.

The police investigation continues in the area. Lingering transport and business disruptions are likely near the scene over the coming hours. Perry is located in Dallas County, northwest of Des Moines.

Avoid the scene until police complete their investigation and depart the area. Strictly heed instructions from authorities. Allow extra driving time near Perry High School.
