Transport disruptions likely in Manhattan, New York, N.Y., US, Jan. 4, following subway train derailment.

Warning

Significant transport disruptions are likely in Manhattan and other parts of New York City during the evening of Jan. 4 following a minor collision and derailment involving two subway trains near the 96th Street station. At least eight people received mostly minor injuries in the accident. Authorities confirmed the incident will cause major disruptions and that service on the 1-, 2-, and 3-Train routes have been suspended in most of Manhattan.

Disruptions in subway services will almost certainly aggravate the city's already heavy evening commute traffic, as well as cause much higher demand for bus, taxi, and app-based ride-sharing services.

Plan accordingly for significantly longer travel delays in much of New York City through the evening of Jan. 4.
