Yemen: US and UK airstrikes reported in several Al-Houthi-controlled areas overnight Jan. 11-12 /update 1
US and UK airstrikes target several areas of Yemen, including Sana'a, Al Hudaydah, and Sa'dah, overnight Jan. 11-12. Five killed.
The US and UK launched airstrikes against several Al-Houthi targets in Yemen overnight Jan. 11-12. The Al-Houthis have claimed that 73 sites were targeted and that six of its members were killed and an additional five injured. Targets included radar systems, as well as drone storage, ballistic missile storage, and cruise missile storage sites near or in Abs, Sana'a, Al Hudaydah, Hajjah, Ta'izz, Sa'dah, and Zabid. The US and UK have stated that the strikes were in response to multiple Al-Houthi attacks against commercial shipping in the Red Sea since the latest Israel-Hamas war began. The Al-Houthis have threatened to respond to the attacks and continue attacks against shipping transiting the Red Sea. Pro-Al-Houthi demonstrations have been reported in Al-Houthi-controlled locations early Jan. 12.
Al-Houthi rebels may launch retaliatory attacks over the coming hours and days. Additional airstrikes by the US and UK are likely if Al-Houthi attacks persist. Al-Houthis will likely continue to organize mass demonstrations in areas under its control. Violence is not likely at these events. Events are likely to occur in city centers, along major roads, near mosques, and near government buildings.
Heed the instructions of local security forces. If incoming fire is reported in the general vicinity, stay indoors, away from windows and exterior walls. If possible, move to a ground floor or basement. Maintain contact with your country's diplomatic mission. Avoid all demonstrations.
