Cambodia: Planned power outages underway in Phnom Penh and Kandal Province through at least Feb. 4

Due to maintenance work, planned power outages will continue in parts of Phnom Penh and Kandal Province through Feb. 4. Utility provider Electricite du Cambodge has announced that electricity disruptions will occur on the following days:

  • Feb. 2: Outages will occur in Reussey Keo, Sen Sok, and Chbar Ampov districts in Phnom Penh 08:00-16:00.

  • Feb. 3: Planned outages will occur in Reussey Keo, Sen Sok, and Kambol districts in Phnom Penh 0800-13:00, and Chbar Ampov District in Phnom Penh 08:00-16:00.

  • Feb. 4: Electricity disruptions are scheduled in Chamkarmon District in Phnom Penh and Takhmao City in Kandal Province 08:00-16:00.

Disruptions to business and telecommunications, including cellular and mobile services, may occur. Transport disruptions are likely in areas with malfunctioning traffic signals. Power outages could result in the temporary unavailability of essential services, such as ATMs and gas stations. Blackouts could adversely affect security protocols, including alarm systems and electronic fences; opportunistic criminal activity could increase during electricity outages.

Charge all communication and portable electronic devices when possible. Unplug electronic equipment that is not connected to surge protectors. Exercise caution when driving in areas affected by power outages. Confirm business appointments. Verify that security systems are operational, including after power is restored. Ensure that generators are functional and fully fueled.
