Officials annouce Feb. 13 release of Polish national kidnapped in Dono Manga locality, Tandjile Region, Chad, Feb. 9.

Informational

Officials announced late Feb. 13 that the Polish doctor kidnapped at Saint Michel Hospital in the Dono Manga locality, Tandjile Region, on Feb. 9, has been released. According to security forces, a large-scale operation took place at around 03:00, about 10 km (6 miles) from the incident site in a forested area, and left kidnappers neutralized. Further details, including any possible ransom demands made or received, are unavailable. Attackers likely carried out the kidnapping for financial gains.

Attackers initially disguised as patients and abducted two doctors, including a Mexican national, in the absence of military forces that were attending morning prayers. The Mexican doctor escaped during a shootout with security forces.

Although kidnappings of foreign nationals are not common in Chad, such incidents have been reported in recent years. Porous borders with neighboring Nigeria, Niger, Sudan, Libya, and CAR, have contributed to poor security conditions as well as the presence of various armed criminal or militant elements.
