Colombia: Authorities implement curfew, heightened security in Tulua, Valle del Cauca, as of late Feb. 10 after clashes with armed groups

Authorities in Tulua, Valle del Cauca Department, have implemented a curfew from 23:00 Feb. 10 until further notice and deployed militarized security personnel in response to recent armed criminal violence. Criminal elements Feb. 10 carried out at least two targeted shootings, killing at least one person and injuring two others, as well as setting at least five vehicles on fire throughout Tulua. This is likely in retaliation for the arrest of Mauricio Marin Silva (Nacho), a member of the organized criminal group The Inmaculate Ones (La Inmaculada, La Oficina, The Office).

A heightened security presence will likely continue throughout Tulua at least over the coming hours. Disruptions to business activity and localized transit are probable. Armed violence between criminal groups and security forces may occur. Emergency measures that further limit civil liberties are possible.
