Tight security and disruptions likely in Kerala, Maharashtra, and Tamil Nadu, India, Feb. 27-28 amid Prime Minister Modi's official visits.

Warning

Increased security and related disruptions to transport and business are almost certain to impact parts of Kerala, Maharashtra, and Tamil Nadu Feb. 27-28 during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visits to the three states. On Feb. 27, Modi will visit the Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC) in Thiruvananthapuram at around 10:45 and subsequently address a public gathering at the city's Central Stadium before traveling to Tamil Nadu. At around 17:15, he will attend a public engagement in Madurai, Tamil Nadu. On Feb. 28, Modi will inaugurate several development projects in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu, at around 09:45 before heading to Maharashtra later in the day. In Maharashtra, the prime minister will dedicate multiple initiatives in Yavatmal at approximately 16:30. Additionally, Modi's trip could incorporate stops at other urban centers in the three states, including brief visits to prominent government buildings and cultural sites. While no group immediately announced plans for any demonstrations, activists could stage gatherings near areas hosting the prime minister.

In preparation for Modi's visit, officials have deployed heightened security around Central Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram. Authorities will likely implement similar security measures, including vehicular checks, in other areas on Modi's itinerary. Minor flight disruptions could occur at airports where the prime minister departs and arrives.

Exercise caution in the affected areas. Confirm business appointments, road statuses, and transport reservations through the evening of Feb. 28. Avoid any demonstrations that materialize. Depart the area at the first sign of any security disturbance. Plan for travel delays and business disruptions in areas that Modi visits. Carry proper identification documents to present at any security checks that authorities set up. Heed all official security and transport advisories.
