Suspected drone attack, multiple explosions reported in Baghdad, Iraq, late Feb. 7; lingering heightened security likely.

Warning

Authorities will likely maintain a heightened security presence in parts of eastern Baghdad over the coming hours after multiple explosions were reported in the city late Feb. 7. Unconfirmed reports suggest that the blasts were the result of a drone attack. Local officials asserted that a vehicle was likely struck by a drone-fired missile and had caught fire in the Al-Mashtal area. Authorities did not immediately confirm further details regarding the blasts, including casualty figures.

Transport and business disruptions are likely in areas impacted by explosions and an associated emergency response.

Avoid areas impacted by explosions until the situation normalizes and authorities give the all-clear. If incoming projectiles are reported or warning sirens sound in the general vicinity, report to the nearest bomb shelter and await further instructions from authorities. If there is no shelter nearby, stay indoors and away from windows and exterior walls. If possible, move to a ground floor or basement. Maintain contact with your diplomatic representation.
