Informational

The utility provider, Kenya Power, has announced planned power outages for multiple areas in several counties, including Nairobi and Mombasa, from 09:00-17:00 on Feb. 22 due to maintenance work. While officials assert disruptions will impact Gigiri and Muthaiga in Nairobi, Kapsowar Town in Elgeyo Marakwet, Tetu, Kigogoino, Wandumbi in Nyeri, Port Reitz and Migadini in Mombasa, Kikambala in Kilfi, and Miasenyi in Taita Taveta counties, the most significant disruptions are likely in Nairobi and Mombasa.

Temporary commercial and communications disruptions are possible in the areas affected by the outage. Traffic lights may not function, resulting in traffic disruptions, and public transport that relies on power may be affected. The blackout could also result in the temporary unavailability of essential facilities such as ATMs and filling stations.

Charge mobile and essential electrical devices when possible and ensure backup batteries are available. Exercise caution when driving in areas where a power outage is scheduled to occur. Park vehicles in secure areas. Confirm business appointments. Verify that security systems are working. Ensure that generators are functional and refuel devices when necessary.
