Lebanon: Alleged targeted Israeli strike kills senior Hizballah militant leader in Nabatieh late Feb. 8

Targeted Israeli strike reportedly kills senior Hizballah leader in Nabatieh, Lebanon as of Feb. 8. Avoid the area. Further violence likely.

Warning

An alleged Israeli targeted strike killed a senior Hizballah leader and wounded one other militant in Nabatieh, Lebanon, late Feb. 8. The strike targeted the vehicle in which the Hizballah militants were traveling. Lebanese authorities have yet to release further details about the incident. However, multiple reports indicate that the strike killed Abbas al-Debs, who served as a military commander within the Hizballah militant organization.

The latest Israeli strike comes amid the ongoing cross-border violence between the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and Hizballah militants. The IDF announced Feb. 8 that one non-commissioned officer (NCO) was seriously wounded and two other soldiers incurred light injuries from an anti-tank missile that Hizballah launched in the Kiryat Shmona area earlier that day.

Heightened security and disruptions to transport and business are likely in the area over the coming hours.

Avoid the area until authorities give the all-clear. Plan for localized disruptions and seek alternative routes to circumvent the impacted location. Heed all official directives. Seek alternative routes and allow additional time to reach destinations if operating in the impacted area.
