Cross-border fire involving Israeli military forces and Lebanon-based militants, including Iran-backed Lebanese Hizballah and Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ), has occurred regularly since the start of the Hamas-Israel conflict in early October 2023. Dozens of people have been killed and injured in close proximity to the shared border in both countries. Israeli attacks deeper into Lebanon have been less frequent. On Feb. 8, a suspected Israeli drone strike targeted suspected LH members in Nabatieh. The incidents deeper within Lebanon carry the potential for further escalations of the border conflict.
