Nigeria: Fuel truck drivers workers striking indefinitely as of Feb. 20

Nigerian Association of Road Transport Owners (NARTO) maintains an indefinite strike as of Feb. 20. Fuel shortages possible.

Informational

The Nigerian Association of Road Transport Owners (NARTO) maintains an indefinite nationwide strike as of Feb. 20. The purpose of the action that began on Feb. 19 is to denounce high operational costs. NARTO represents drivers responsible for the transportation of petroleum products in Nigeria and the broader region. Since the action began, long queues at fuel stations have been reported across the country, including Abuja and Lagos; some stations have reportedly run out of stock. Should the work stoppage persist, fuel shortages may worsen.

Increased demand at available fuel stations may prompt congestion on nearby roads. Fuel shortages may affect business operations and transport services. Consumer frustration could manifest in the form of sporadic clashes near filling stations or street demonstrations if the shortage becomes protracted.

Plan for fuel shortages and long queues at gas stations as long as the strike continues. Confirm all ground transport services before travel. Do not buy fuel on the black market. Refuel vehicles when supply is available. Avoid all demonstrations.
