Romania: Taxi drivers staging protest in central Bucharest Feb. 27-28
Taxi drivers demonstrating in central Bucharest, Romania, 09:00-14:00 Feb. 27-28. Transport disruptions likely.
Unionized taxi drivers are staging a demonstration on Constitution Square Feb. 27-28. Participants demand improved working conditions and changes in the legal framework of taxi work in Romania. Protesting taxi drivers are led by the National Association of the Employers of Transport Operators in the Taxi Regime (ANPOTRT); around 1,800 divers with their vehicles are participating. Protests will end by 14:00 on Feb. 27, and resume between 09:00 and 14:00 on Feb. 28. Further action by taxi drivers is possible in the coming days.
Lingering road travel disruptions will likely continue in the afternoons of Feb. 27-28, following the end of the activities in the affected area. Heightened security is likely near active demonstration areas. Low-level confrontations between protesters and law enforcement officers or frustrated motorists cannot be ruled out.
Allow additional time for travel in the central Bucharest area. Check traffic conditions in the affected area before departure. Avoid demonstration areas as a standard precaution. Strictly heed all instructions from law enforcement officers. Immediately depart the area at the first sign of any security disturbance.
