Slovakia: Opposition activists plan to demonstrate in Bratislava Feb. 7

Opposition activists to protest at the National Council in Bratislava, Slovakia, from 17:00 Feb. 7. Increased security, disruptions likely.

Warning

Opposition activists plan to demonstrate at the National Council of the Slovak Republic in Bratislava, from 17:00 Feb. 7. Groups led by Progressive Slovakia and the Freedom and Solidarity party will denounce a government plan to dissolve a special prosecutorial office in charge of investigating corruption. Similar rallies on Jan. 18 and Feb. 1 attracted around 30,000 attendees; it is likely that a similar number will take part. On Feb. 1, organizers led parallel rallies in other urban centers, and therefore additional demonstrations are possible nationwide.

Heightened security and localized transport disruptions are likely near demonstration sites. Low-level confrontations between protesters and law enforcement officers cannot be ruled out.

Avoid the affected areas as a standard precaution. Allow additional time if traveling near the protest sites. Strictly heed all instructions from law enforcement officers. Immediately depart the area at the first sign of any security disturbance.
