Opposition activists plan to protest in several cities in Slovakia Feb. 29. The purpose of the planned actions is to denounce the ruling government's alleged antidemocratic policy moves. The number of people that may participate in the demonstrations was not immediately clear.
Opposition activists have announced that related demonstrations will take place at the following places and times:
Lucenec: Republic Square (Namestie Republiky), 17:00-18:00
Kosice: Lower Gate (Dolna Brana) in Freedom Square from 18:00
Poprad: In front of OC Forum, 18:00-18:45
Prievidza: Freedom Square (Namestie Slobody), 18:00-19:00
Rimavska Sobota: Mihaly Tompa Square (Namestie Mihalya Tompu) from 17:00
Heightened security and localized transport disruptions are likely near demonstration sites. Low-level confrontations between protesters and law enforcement officers cannot be ruled out.
Avoid the protests as a standard precaution. Allow additional time if traveling near the demonstration sites. Immediately depart the area at the first sign of any security disturbance. Strictly heed all instructions from law enforcement officers.
