Authorities are deploying additional security forces into Lakes State as of Feb. 2 following intercommunal clashes Jan. 31-Feb. 1. Fighting near the Alor area along the border with Warrap and Unity states left at least 38 people dead and 52 injured. According to local officials, tensions escalated in the area after herders from Warrap State moved into the Alor area, resulting in violence between communities.
A heightened security presence and localized disruptions are likely in the area over the coming days. Further violence is possible.
Alor is about 100 km (62 miles) southwest of Thar Jath, Unity State.
