Police have lifted a shelter-in-place order in the Navy Yard neighborhood of Washington, DC, after detaining two suspects in a shooting incident, early Feb. 29. According to authorities, the incident occurred when a police officer was shot and wounded after confronting two individuals who had illegally entered a building in the 400 block of M Street SE. The gunman subsequently hid in a nearby residential building before being apprehended along with his companion; no additional casualties have been reported.

A significant police presence is likely in the area for the coming hours, as are lingering transport and business disruptions.
