CAR: Armed rebels attack Sikikede (Ndah), Vakaga prefecture, March 7

Armed rebels claim capture of Sikikede (Ndah), Vakaga prefecture, northern CAR, March 7; casualties are unclear, further attacks possible.

Warning

Militants associated with the Coalition des Patriotes pour le Changement (CPC) attacked and claim to control Sikikede (also known as Ndah), in Vakaga Prefecture, early March 7. Rebels have pushed the Central African Armed Forces (FACA) further South towards Ndele. Populations have been forced to flee the assault; likely casualties are unclear. The CPC made a similar, though unsuccessful, attempt at seizing the city in February 2023.

Similar attacks are possible in the area over the coming days. Officials could implement movement restrictions, including curfews and vehicle checks, on short notice in areas subject to militant violence.

Sikikede is located approximately 50 km (31 miles) southwest of Birao, the capital of Vakaga Prefecture.

If operating in the CAR, exercise a high degree of vigilance due to the threat of violence and comply with authorities' directives. Avoid travel at night and undertake all travel outside of urban centers in convoy and following a full security review of the route. Maintain regular contact with diplomatic representations.
