CAR: Civil society group plans protest in Bangui April 12

Civil society group to rally in Bangui, CAR, April 12. Increased security and localized business and transport disruptions likely.

Warning

The Civil Society Working Group (GTSC) is planning to hold a protest in Bangui on April 12. Supporters are asked to gather at the Martyr roundabout at 07:00 before marching towards the Enerca utility provider office. GTSC leaders are calling for the regular and equal distribution of electricity in the city. The group is also denouncing increased taxes and the cost of living.

Heightened security measures are likely in the area. The march will likely cause localized transport disruptions. Associated localized business disruptions cannot be ruled out. Security personnel may forcibly disperse protesters, especially if they become overly disruptive. Clashes between security forces and supporters are possible.

Avoid the protest due to the threat of violence. Depart the area at the first sign of any security disturbance. Allow additional travel time near the protest site; confirm road status and transport reservations in the affected area on April 12. Heed all official transport and security advisories.
