Informational

The National Union of Social Affairs and Health Workers of Chad (SYNTASST) is staging an indefinite nationwide strike as of March 13; the strike began March 12. The purpose of the work stoppage is to denounce elevated fuel prices and demand that governmental authorities adhere to their commitments stipulated in a three-year social pact. As part of the labor action, strike organizers have called for the maintenance of a minimum level of service in hospitals and other health centers.

The work stoppage may cause healthcare services disruptions. Strike-related demonstrations cannot be ruled out. Authorities will likely deploy a heightened security presence to the sites of any such gatherings that materialize. Clashes between demonstrators and security forces are possible, especially if security forces attempt to forcibly disperse crowds.

Avoid any strike-related demonstrations that materialize as a precaution. Leave the area at the first sign of a confrontation. Reconfirm business and medical appointments and plan accordingly for disruptions to transport and other services in various sectors during the strike period. Adhere to all instructions issued by local authorities and your home government.
