Activists to hold demonstrations across several Colombian cities March 8 to commemorate International Women's Day. Disruptions possible.

Women's rights activists plan to demonstrate in multiple cities across Colombia on March 8 as part of the International Women's Day commemoration. The events scheduled for the following locations and times will probably draw the largest crowds:

  • Barranquilla: Rally at La Pradera, beginning at 15:00

  • Bogota: March from the Labor Ministry to the Plaza de Bolivar, from 15:00

  • Cali: Rally at Plazoleta Jaime Varela, starting at 14:00

  • Cartagena: Rallies at Santa Rita Market, Plaza de la Paz, and India Catalina Monument, from 15:00

  • Manizales: Rally at Parque de la Mujer, 16:00

Related demonstrations are also likely in locations elsewhere across the country. The largest gatherings could draw thousands of participants. Heightened security and disruptions to transport and business are likely around all demonstrations. Clashes between demonstrators and police cannot be ruled out.

Avoid all demonstrations as a precaution. Allow additional time to reach destinations in impacted cities on March 8. Heed the instructions of local security personnel.
