Europe: Activists to demonstrate in multiple cities March 16
Activists to protest in four major cities across Europe on March 16 to denounce Russian LGBTQ ruling. Heightened security likely.
Activists plan to demonstrate in Berlin, London, Helsinki, and Rome on March 16. The purpose of the demonstrations is to denounce a Nov. 30 Russian Supreme Court ruling classifying the "international public LGBT movement" as extremist. It is unknown how many participants will gather for the demonstrations. Protests will take place at:
Berlin: Pariser Platz from 12:00.
London: At the Russian Embassy on Bayswater Road from 14:00-16:00.
Helsinki: At the Russian Embassy on Tehtaankatu from 12:00-15:00.
Rome: At the National Central Library on Viale Castro Pretorio from 11:00.
Heightened security and localized transport disruptions are likely near all demonstration sites. Though unlikely, confrontations between demonstrators and law enforcement officers cannot be ruled out.
Avoid the protest areas as a standard precaution. Allow additional time if traveling near demonstration sites. Strictly heed all instructions from law enforcement officers. Immediately depart the area at the first sign that any security disturbance may occur.
