France: Unionized workers launch strike on ferry services between Marseille and Corsica, March 11-12

Unionized ferry workers striking on services between Marseille and Corsica, March 11-12. Significant maritime service reductions likely.

Warning

Employees at Corsica Linea and La Meridionale ferry companies, which run services between Marseille and Corsica, are striking March 11-12. The CGT union-led strike is over the companies' status as "public service delegate" bodies and their future funding. The operating companies announced that the strike will lead to cancellations and delays. Ferry sailings will likely be severely disrupted, thereby impacting passenger and logistics services.

Ferry service disruptions will continue for the duration of the strike. Striking workers may stage protests or pickets near ferry terminals. Heightened security and localized transport disruptions are near any demonstrations that may materialize. Disruptions may continue in the hours following the strike as services resume.

Reconfirm Marseille-Corsica ferry schedules before traveling. Allow additional time for maritime travel, and for passenger and vehicle processing. Avoid all protests as a standard precaution.
