Environmental activists to protest in numerous cities across Germany March 16. Heightened security, transport disruptions likely.
Environmental activists affiliated with the Last Generation (Letzte Generation) movement plan to protest in a number of cities across Germany from 12:00 on March 16. Planned demonstration areas include:
Berlin: Warschauer Bridge
Bremen: Intersection of Am Wall and Herdentor
Cologne: Ebertplatz
Freiburg: Freiburg Central Station (Freiburg Hauptbahnhof)
Karlsruhe: Intersection of Durlacher Allee and Am Grossmarkt
Leipzig: Wilhelm-Leuschner-Platz
Munich: Gartnerplatz
Regensburg: Intersection near the Justice Building (Justizgebaude)
Ruegen: Intersection of L29 and Dubnitz
Stuttgart: Flughafenstrasse (organizers did not specify where on Flughafenstrasse)
Heightened security and localized transport disruptions are likely near all protest sites. Rail disruptions are possible at Warschauer Strasse Station in Berlin, Freiburg Central Station in Freiburg, Hansaring Station in Cologne, Wilhelm-Leuschner-Platz Station in Leipzig, Reichenbachplatz Station in Munich, and Flughafen/Messe and Messe West stations in Stuttgart. Ferry and port service disruptions are possible at Sassnitz Mukran ferry terminal and port. Transport disruptions on Flughafenstrasse in Stuttgart may lead to terminal disruptions at Stuttgart Airport (STR). Confrontations between demonstrators and law enforcement officers or frustrated drivers cannot be ruled out.
Avoid protest areas as a standard precaution. Allow additional time if traveling near any demonstration areas. Allow additional time if traveling through the affected railway stations, Sassnitz Mukran ferry terminal, or STR. Strictly heed all instructions from law enforcement officers. Immediately depart the area at the first sign that any security disturbance may occur.
