Heightened security is likely, and further unrest is possible in Tontokrom, Amansie South District, Ashanti Region, through early March. Clashes between protesting residents and private security guards of a mining company left at least three people dead, March 2. On March 1, community members protested to resolve ongoing disputes with the mining company. The unrest has been motivated by ongoing tensions between community members, some of whom are engaged in illegal mining and legal mining interests.

Security forces are likely to deploy to the town to restore order. Additional patrols and possible movement restrictive measures, such as curfews, are possible. Additional protests could occur. These are likely near mining sites or mining company offices. Further violence is possible. The recent killings increase the possibility of additional clashes.
