Guinea: Unrest reported in several Conakry neighborhoods late March 14 due to electricity outages
Protest reported amid electricity outages in several locations in Conakry, Guinea, late March 14. Avoid all protest.
Demonstrations have been reported across several locations in Conakry as of late March 14 following a technical fault on the high voltage line in Maneah, Kindia region, around 17:30. Reports indicate that demonstrators erected barricades in Dixinn, Hamdallaye, Lambadji, Sonfonia, and Taouyah neighborhoods. Police have deployed to the impacted areas and are attempting to remove the barricades. The Guinean Electricity Company (Electricite de Guinee, EDG) assured customers that power would gradually be restored. However, they did not give a timeline for when services will be fully restored.
Increased security and localized transport disruptions are almost certain over the coming hours. Further unrest is possible if the power outages become protracted.
Avoid all demonstrations as a standard precaution. Keep away from any locations where crowds appear to be forming or security personnel deploying. Leave the area at the first sign of any security disturbance. Heed the instructions of local authorities. Plan accordingly for protest-related traffic disruptions.
