Farmers are blocking Via Nomentana in Rome as of the evening of March 13. Demonstrators have set two large hay bales on fire and have gathered with approximately 130 vehicles between Via Nomentana between the Ring Road (Grande Raccordo Anulare) and Via Sora Lella. Law enforcement officers are on the scene.
Heightened security and continued road blockages are likely in the coming hours. Transport disruptions have reportedly spread to the Ring Road and other nearby roadways. Confrontations between demonstrators, law enforcement officers, or frustrated motorists cannot be ruled out.
