Portugal: Activists plan to conduct protest march in Lisbon March 21

Activists plan to march from Praca Dom Pedro IV to National of the Republic in Lisbon, Portugal, on March 21. Heightened security likely.

Warning

Education activists plan to hold a protest march in central Lisbon from 14:30 March 21. The purpose of the demonstration is to denounce increasing prices for student accomodations. Participants will gather at Praca Dom Pedro IV (also known as Rossio or Praca Rossio) from 14:30 before marching to the Assembly of the Republic. The march route and amount of participants remain unclear.

Heightened security and localized transport disruptions are likely along the demonstration route. Though unlikely, low-level confrontations between protesters and law enforcement officers or frustrated motorists cannot be ruled out.

Avoid the demonstration area as a standard precaution. Allow additional time if traveling near Praca Dom Pedro IV, the Assembly of the Republic, or areas between these two locations. Strictly heed all instructions from law enforcement officers. Immediately depart the area at the first sign that any security disturbance may occur.
