Security forces have secured the SYL Hotel in Mogadishu, near Villa Somalia (presidential palace), the morning of March 15. Al-Shabaab has claimed responsibility for the assault, which began late the previous day and involved at least two IEDs and heavy gunfire. Security forces reportedly killed all of the gunmen and are conducting an investigation. Officials did not immediately confirm any other casualties from the attack.

Heightened security and localized transport and business disruptions are almost certain in the area over the coming hours.

Avoid the affected area and consider refraining from nonessential movement in Mogadishu until security forces give the all-clear. Adhere to all instructions issued by local authorities. Maintain contact with diplomatic representations.
