Venezuela: Protests planned in multiple locations nationwide March 14
Retirees and pensioners plan protests across Venezuela March 14. Heightened security, transport disruptions likely.
Activists affiliated with several organizations, including the Coordinator of Pensioners and Retirees of Venezuela (Coordinadora de Pensionados y Jubilados de Venezuela, COPENJUVE), plan to hold protests across the country from 09:00 on March 14. In Caracas, protesters will gather outside the UN Development Program (Programa de las Naciones Unidas para el Desarrollo, PNUD) building on Avenida Francisco de Miranda. Additionally, organizers have called for gatherings outside all Venezuelan Institute of Social Security (Instituto Venezolano de los Seguros Sociales, IVSS) offices nationwide. Participants will make several pension-related demands. Attendance will vary, with the largest turnouts likely occurring in major cities such as Caracas.
Trade unions, student groups, and civil society organizations could join the action. Protests are also possible along main avenues, plazas, and government buildings. Heightened security is likely at all related gatherings. Localized ground travel and business disruptions are likely near any demonstrations that may materialize. Minor clashes between protesters and police are possible.
Avoid all protests. Plan for ground travel disruptions near gathering sites. Reconfirm the route status before departure. Leave the area immediately at the first sign that a security disturbance may occur. Heed instructions from authorities.
