Burkina Faso: Activists plan to stage a sit-in protest in Ouagadougou 09:00-10:00 April 12

Political activists to stage a sit-in demonstration at the National Security Directorate in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, 09:00-10:00 April 12.

Informational

Activists associated with the Movement Serving and Not Serving Ourselves (SENS, Mouvement Servir et Non se Servir) plan to stage a sit-in demonstration in front of the National Security Directorate in Ouagadougou 09:00-10:00 April 12. The purpose of the protest is to demand the release of the national coordinator of the SENS movement, Guy Herve Kam, among others allegedly arbitrarily arrested by authorities. Reports indicate that Kam remains in detention despite an administrative court issuing a release order for March 7. If the demonstration moves forward, it remains unknown how many participants will attend the event.

A heightened security presence and localized transport and business disruptions are likely in the vicinity. Clashes with security forces remain possible, particularly if demonstrators are overly disruptive or ignore police orders to disperse.

Avoid the protest as a standard precaution. Consider using alternative routes if operating near the impacted area. Abide by all official directives. If violence occurs, leave the area immediately and take shelter in a secure, nongovernmental building.
