Informational

As of the afternoon of April 2, ten northeastern Cali neighborhoods are reportedly experiencing electrical outages due to an earlier fire. The outage affects Alcazares, Floralia, Petecuy, Guaduales, Sena, Paso del Comercio, Los Andes, Los Parques and Chiminangos areas. Officials state that an electrical fault at the San Luis electrical substation caused the fire and contingency measures are being established to restore power to the impacted areas; however, they did not provide an estimate of when services would be fully restored.

Temporary commercial and communications disruptions are possible in the impacted areas during the outage. Traffic disruptions and longer driving times are possible during these periods due to malfunctioning traffic signals. Power outages could also result in the temporary unavailability of essential services such as ATMs and filling stations. There is an increased security threat during power outages. Blackouts could adversely affect security protocols, including alarm systems and electronic fences; opportunistic criminal activity could increase during electricity outages.

Charge laptops, tablets, mobile phones, and other business or travel-critical appliances regularly. Unplug electronic equipment that is not connected to surge protectors. Exercise caution when driving in areas affected by power outages. Verify that security systems are operational, including after power is restored.
