Activists affiliated with several organizations, including the National League of Public Services Users (Liga Nacional de Usuarios de Servicios Publicos), plan to hold demonstrations in multiple locations in the Caribbean region of Colombia April 11. They are protesting against high electricity bills and demanding lower prices and improved energy services.

Details of known events are as follows:

  • Barranquilla: Rally outside Romelio Martinez Stadium, starting at 14:00

  • Cartagena: Rally at Plaza de la Paz from 16:00

  • Santa Marta: March from Parque de Bolivar to Centro Comercial Prado Plaza beginning at 16:00

  • Sincelejo: Rally at Afinia (regional energy entity) offices from 17:00

  • Valledupar: Rally at Afinia offices from 08:00

Hundreds of people are likely to participate in most of the protests, with the possibility of several thousands gathering in Barranquilla and Cartagena.

A heightened security presence is likely near the protest sites. Associated transport and business disruptions are probable.
