Explosives ordnance disposal technicians plan to defuse a 500-kg (1,100-lb) WWII-era bomb in the Biebrich area of Wiesbaden on April 3. The unexploded bomb was discovered during construction work at the area between the Autobahn 643 and Freibad Kallebad. Local officials have issued evacuation orders for all areas within 1,000 meters (1,094 yards) radius of the operation site. All residences, workplaces, and businesses in the area must be evacuated no later than 09:00 on April 3; about 10,000 individuals are affected by the order. Authorities hope to conduct a controlled demolition by 12:00 at the latest.

Officials will certainly keep a heightened security presence in the affected area until the disposal operation is complete. Crews will likely close roads in the affected area during the operation, including autobahns 66 and 643, causing localized traffic and business disruptions.
