Germany: Environment activists plan to stage protests in Nuremberg on May 18
Environment activists to rally on Rothenburger Street in Nuremberg, Germany, from 11:00 May 18. Heightened security, disruptions likely.
The environmental activist groups Extinction Rebellion (XR) and the Last Generation (LG) will rally in Nuremberg on May 18 to denounce a planned extension of the Frankenschnellweg (A73) motorway. XR and LG activists will gather on Rothernburger Street from 11:00. At 12:00, LG protestors will take over and conduct a "disobedient assembly" until an unspecified time. It is unclear how many people from either group will participate in the protest.
Local authorities will likely deploy to the rally site. Protesters will likely block roads and disrupt traffic near the protest location. Scuffles are possible between frustrated motorists and activists.
Avoid the protest as a standard security precaution. Allow extra time if traveling near the impacted area through the afternoon of May 18. Heed instructions from authorities.
