Italy: Ferry allides with dock at Port of Naples April 19

Passenger ferry allides with dock at Port of Naples, Italy, April 19. Disruption to ferry services likely.

Informational

The Isola de Procida roll-on roll-off (RoRo) passenger ferry allided with a dock at the Port of Naples the morning of April 19, resulting in over 30 injuries, including one serious injury. The allision, which involved a Caremar-operated vessel, reportedly occured due to strong winds during mooring. Disruption to ferry services between Naples and other ports in the Bay of Naples, including Sorrento, Capri, and Ischia, are likely for the remainder of April 19, with Isola de Procida remaining docked and likely requiring inspection and possible repairs before returning to service.

The incident coincides with a summit of G7 foreign ministers on the island of Capri, which is due to end April 19. Travel from the island is likely to be impacted by the reduced number of vessels available combined with high demand and few options for leaving the island.

Reconfirm Caremar ferry schedules before traveling. Allow additional time for maritime travel, and for passenger and vehicle processing. Do not check out of accomodation until onward travel plans are confirmed.
